These multi-instrumental twins form the perfect duo on stage as FLAXXON, accompanying themselves on everything from bass to tambourine to banjo and mixing it up musically from country crossover to power dance pop. They are geared up to get on stage at The Epsy on May 9th for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia and are hoping to win over a few more fans for their growing fan base. Before they hit the stage FLAXXON hangs out and answers a few of our questions.
WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME FLAXXON?
The name FLAXXON came about as a premonition from our mum. The double 'x' being the x in the genes.
WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND?
Yasmin plays bass, tambourine, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, 12-string guitar. Yolanda plays acoustic guitar, banjo, electric guitar, electric country guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, 12-string guitar. We juggle the instruments between us as the mood and inspiration dictates. A lesser-known fact is that as we are 99.96% identical, we have to work extremely hard at vocalising at different pitches, tones and harmonies.
WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?
Our musical inspirations include Little Mix, Michael Jackson, Samantha Jade, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Jessie J.
WHAT DOES PERFORMING LIVE MEAN TO YOU?
When we perform live, it humbles us to see other people being touched by our songs as we perform them for our own enjoyment.
WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM GIG BE?
We have performed and been invited to do many live local council celebrations, blue light discos, charity events, interschool events, battle of the bands, music festivals and fundraisers. Our goal is for a record deal, Tamworth, Nashville and to perform at Madison Square Garden.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR GIG AT THE ESPY?
We hope that at least one person goes away feeling as good about their lives as we have felt performing in front of them.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
The location and the exposure of a well-known establishment.
