This six piece from Sydney are psyched to take their indie funk rock tunes to the stage at The Lair for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. They manage to hold their horses just long enough for a chat before the show. WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME JAGGED JAYNE?
Lead singer Simone created the name from her middle name Jayne and her weird love of collecting rocks when on the edge of beach cliffs. Jagged Jayne represents our style of edgy class.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND HOW DID YOU FIRST GET TOGETHER?
We have the tightest rhythm section in the world called the Brads. They are godlike. Jake on guitar has some crazy sweet tones and one-liners. Joe on keys and vocals creates some sweet, sweet sounds. James on trumpet adds that little extra something to the band and Simone on lead vocals. We all met at university and have been playing together for years.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Funky, edgy, tight.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL AND NON MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?
KIMBRA- is one of my personal musical influences. Her talent as a songwriter and as a vocalist blows my mind. She is so creative in all sides of things from her music, fashion, lifestyle—she's a true inspiration for me.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM GIG BE?
We've played in great venues in Sydney and also along the East Coast in Byron Bay, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. My dream gig would be playing Coachella.

HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE SHOW AT THE LAIR?
Dancing—lots of dancing. Oh and we're in the studio recording our debut EP, which will be released July 4th!
