Before their upcoming show for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia at The Lair in Sydney, the boys of Excuse My French sit down to chat with us. They let us in on where they get their inspiration and what they’re doing to prepare for the gig. Be there next Wednesday, April 9th at The Lair, and in the meantime, check out what Excuse My French has to say.
WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME EXCUSE MY FRENCH?
The inspiration for Excuse My French dates back to our first practice, when we were saying some words that your parents wouldn’t like to hear. Inspired by the common saying, “Pardon my French”, our name was born.
WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND?
Max Kaesshaefer - Lead vocals and guitar
Kian Southgate - Drums
Mitch McLaine - Lead guitar
Josh Joffe - Bass guitar
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Grungy funky flavour.
WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER AS A BAND?
We are like minded and work well together. Our styles of playing and composing work hand in hand and we can collaborate as well as individually write material. We work together to incorporate our individual strengths and preferences.
WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM GIG BE?
We have played at a variety of pubs and clubs around Sydney, as well as in school competitions. We recently played at Blues4Blues, a youth music organisation concert. Our dream gig would be to play at a music festival such as Woodstock, where we can freely play music for the sake of expressing ourselves to a wide audience.
HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE SHOW AT THE LAIR?
In preparation for the show at The Lair we are practicing twice every week and even more if we can. We invited a producer to a rehearsal and had him make a quick recording and give us some tips.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We chose Emergenza because it is well known, reputable and will allow us to play our unique style of music to a large, diverse audience and be exposed to critics, producers and record labels.
