Promising to put on a soulful, emotive performance this Sunday at The Espy for Emergenza Festival Australia is singer songwriter Absent Minded Daze. It will be just his guitar and his voice up against a strong line up of local Melbourne bands in round one of the contest. But he’s got a strong set of songs that hold their own. Before the show he lets us in on his musical inspirations and what performing means to him.

WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME ABSENT MINDED_DAZE?
I wanted to have a name that really related to how I felt when I was writing and Absent Minded Daze just hit it on the head.

WHAT'S YOUR LIVE STAGE SET UP LIKE?
I'm an acoustic artist and I love the fact that I'm considered pure and raw with my sound. I have a simple set up just with guitar and backing vocals.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
1-storytelling, 2-heartfelt, 3-folk.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MUSIC?
As an artist you always want your songs to connect with people so I hope that my songs will have this effect.

WHAT'S BEEN THE KEY TO GETTING SUCH A LARGE FOLLOWING ON FACEBOOK?
It comes down to using social media to your advantage and also a bit of luck.

HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE SHOW AT THE ESPY?
I have been doing a number of shows trying different songs to see which ones have more of an effect for The Espy.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
I'm not a fan of battle of the bands competitions but Emergenza doesn't feel like it hence the reason why I'm happy to be part of it.
