In Shape for the Finals: Under Night’s Cover

In a pre-show interview, this Sydney band says they are fit for the finals at The Metro Theatre on December 14th

Under Night’s Cover say they’re in shape from so much head banging in the earlier rounds and are totally set for the finals. Confidence certainly isn’t lacking with these guys, and they plan to demonstrate that by unveiling yet another new, original song on the big night. Be sure to be at The Metro Theatre on December 14th when it all goes down. In the meantime, hear in the band’s own words what they think is going to separate them from the pack in the finals.

SO, DO YOU THINK YOU'RE READY FOR THE BIG NIGHT?

Definitely, our necks have become strong and tough from copious amounts of head banging in the first two rounds, so one more set will be a walk in the park.

WHAT’S THE BAND DOING TO GET READY FOR THE FINALS? REHEARSING MUCH?

We’ve been writing a new song to unveil at the final. It’s about a large, relentless army of communists invading the entire world! Needless to say, it’s fast; it’s technical; and we can already see the circle pit that it will create.

WHAT, IF ANY, CHANGES HAVE YOU MADE TO YOUR STAGE SET-UP OR YOUR LIVE PERFORMANCE WITH THE FINALS IN MIND?

We learnt quite a bit from playing on the large stage at The Factory, so we will just try to hone what we did there to enhance our performance as much as we can.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE BIG NIGHT?

There will be a lot of bands that will bring a lot of fans. Hopefully we make a few friends and play in front of an audience of not only our fans but some of the other band’s fans too!

WHAT EFFECT DO YOU THINK WINNING WOULD HAVE ON THE BAND?

We all love bands from Germany such as Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray, so visiting the country that they came from would inspire us greatly.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FESTIVAL SO FAR? ANY FUNNY ANECDOTES FROM YOUR PREVIOUS SHOWS OR REHEARSALS LEADING UP TO THE FINALS?
It’s been great playing at well-regarded venues. A funny moment was in round one when we were playing our Ballad-ish song “Euphoric Desolation”, and during a slow acoustic section, there was a brutal circle pit in full action right in front of us.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT PLAYING THE METRO THEATRE IN SYDNEY?

Two of our favourite bands (LORD and Blind Guardian) have played shows there, so to play on the same stage will be a great experience.

WHAT IS GOING TO SET YOU APART FROM THE OTHER BANDS AND SECURE A WIN FOR YOUR BAND?

We like to think our technical proficiency on our instruments is something that sets us apart from the crowd, but our stage energy is something we pride ourselves on. There is rarely a moment when we are not windmilling or jumping around on stage, and we have gotten great feedback on this.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO BANDS THAT ARE CONSIDERING SIGNING UP FOR THE FESTIVAL NEXT YEAR?

It’s good gig practise as you get supplied with very large amps and get to meet other bands and play at great venues.

IF YOU HAVE THE DESIRE TO SHOUT OUT TO ANY OF THE BANDS OR SAY ANY THANKS, DO SO HERE:
To every band in the final: I hope you are all there from 4-12 at the front supporting every band. Let’s make it a great night!
