Mercury White Honing their Electro Indie Sound for The Finals

Melbourne indie rock band Mercury White are honing their new electro groove for the finals at The Hi-Fi on December 8th

This well-known local Melbourne band has been refining their indie rock sound and even getting the time to write some new material, which they may showcase at The Hi-Fi on December 8th. They’re set to battle it out with thirteen other local bands in the hopes of getting to the national finals in Sydney. Don’t miss out on your chance to see them then. In the meantime, check out what the band has to say about their journey so far in the festival and what may be in store for the finals at The Hi-Fi.

SO, DO YOU THINK YOU'RE READY FOR THE BIG NIGHT?

Yes, we’re just about ready! We have some new material we are keen to play. Recently we've been song writing quite a bit and refining our sound.

WHAT’S THE BAND DOING TO GET READY FOR THE FINALS? REHEARSING MUCH?

At the moment we rehearse once a week, but then lately we've been trying to fit in two rehearsals a week.

WHAT, IF ANY, CHANGES HAVE YOU MADE TO YOUR STAGE SET-UP OR YOUR LIVE PERFORMANCE WITH THE FINALS IN MIND?

Our image onstage is something we tend to overlook, but since the competition we've been developing this and hoping to come across as more professional.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE BIG NIGHT?

We are looking forward to The Hi-Fi bar as last time we played there we really enjoyed the stage and sound we achieved. Of course the other finalists will be great to watch and the audience will hopefully be really fun!

WHAT EFFECT DO YOU THINK WINNING WOULD HAVE ON THE BAND?

Winning would really mean so much in regards to exposure and networking with people in the music industry. It would give us such an amazing experience to learn from and promote our band’s new sound. It would also give us an incredible insight as to what an international audience might think of Mercury White.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FESTIVAL SO FAR? ANY FUNNY ANECDOTES FROM YOUR PREVIOUS SHOWS OR REHEARSALS LEADING UP TO THE FINALS?
In comparison to other live shows and competitions Emergenza has been extremely organized and allowed good time for sound checks and a great sound engineer.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT PLAYING THE HI-FI IN MELBOURNE?

The venue is such a great space and can really deliver a memorable gig. Also, getting the opportunity to be judged by industry professionals would be appreciated and help us in the long run to be the best we can be.

WHAT IS GOING TO SET YOU APART FROM THE OTHER BANDS AND SECURE A WIN FOR YOUR BAND?

Mercury White is now becoming more electro indie since we've begun incorporating more synth elements. I think the keys, violin and dual vocals sets us apart. Our song writing is now developing more and more. We always do our best to create a unique and catchy sound.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO BANDS THAT ARE CONSIDERING SIGNING UP FOR THE FESTIVAL NEXT YEAR?

The Emergenza competition is a great opportunity to perform in fantastic venues around Melbourne and beyond, and also a way in which to begin taking yourselves seriously amongst other bands in your area.

IF YOU HAVE THE DESIRE TO SHOUT OUT TO ANY OF THE BANDS OR SAY ANY THANKS, DO SO HERE:

Good luck to all the other bands – everyone has worked hard to get to this point!
