A Gentlemen’s Agreement is a hard-hitting band with power riffs and the hardcore vox to match. Now with their debut full-length album in the works, they’ve been spending tons of time in the studio. But don’t think that means their letting their live shows fall by the wayside. Au contraire. They’ve been honing their live performance to a hard science with the goal of putting on a super sick stage show for the semi-finals at The Factory Theatre on November 2nd. And somehow they still managed to find time to sit down and share a few words with Emergenza before the show.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT WHO A GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT ARE?
We are a four piece alternative metal band from Sydney, looking to take on the music scene in one swift, consistent blow. We aim to put on an awesome show with the perfect set list for the night.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR MUSICAL INSPIRATION FROM?
A lot of other bands from multiple genres and just everything else that happens in our lives. It’s easier to write meaningful songs. We draw inspiration from our work, families, friends and all the other life events.

WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO YOUR ONSTAGE PERFORMANCES?
Practice! And lots of it! For every show, regardless how big, we try to bring our best game faces and put on one hell of a show, we try to be in sync with each other knowing that is half the battle, as well as drawing energy from a crowd that throws none back can be tricky.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
Playing at The Lair. I remember watching MTV when they played music and seeing The Lair and some of the awesome bands that shared the same stage we got to play on.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
Between, just another gig or two to keep us fresh and ready for our next phase, other than that a lot of practice and we have been writing new material as well, and maybe will even play a new one on the night.

IN WHAT WAY DO YOU THINK YOU'VE GROWN AS A BAND SINCE YOU FIRST ENROLLED IN THE FESTIVAL?
A lot wiser to the music world and overall just that little bit better as musicians and stage performers. It’s easy to see now that this is something we all want.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
Exciting and scary at the same time. We really want to make it to that next step and prove to the world who we are and that we aren’t backing down anytime soon.

HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO PROMOTE FOR YOUR UPCOMING GIG?
Social media, flyers, word of mouth, merchandise incentives and out our other gigs we have promoted.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST ABOUT THIS ROUND IN THE SEMI-FINALS?
The Factory Theatre of course! Playing on an iconic stage that many other large acts played on is just a dream. We’re also looking forward to hopefully playing a show to our biggest crowd yet.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO ENROLL IN THE FESTIVAL IN THE FIRST PLACE?
An adventure into something new, and so far we have gained and learnt so much, and we hope to continue that right to the finals!
