The Crooner, The Beater, The Plucker, and The Groover: Merlin Twist

Sydney band Merlin Twist already won their first heat and hope to do it all again, this time for the semi-finals at The Factory Theatre on the 7th

This bluesy indie band say they “work [their] magic throughout the land of guitar, keys, drums, bass, and vocals” and refer to their members as The Crooner, The Beater, The Plucker, and The Groover. If that doesn’t express their utter coolness enough, you can stream their debut EP on their Soundcloud and hear it for yourself.

The first song “No Words” features their slower, melancholy side, with great blues guitar and super low key vocals, whereas “Roadside” features their more badass Kings of Leon vibe with gritty guitar and lyrics like, “Standing by the roadside wasted, and I don’t know if I can find my way home…”. They’ve got an attitude about them that’s both gritty, rock and roll, and yet super easy to listen to. No wonder they won their audience over, swiping the most votes in the first heat of the festival. They’re hoping to do it all again, although it may be a little more difficult for them this time around, as they’re scheduled to go head to head with seven other incredible semi-finalists.

If you missed out on their round one performance and you’re curious about their live-shows, check out the pictures and footage they’ve got posted on their Facebook band page. It’s evident that this band has total command of the stage. And they plan to prove this point once again on the 7th at The Factory Theatre.
