Darkness Reigns: Combining Melody with Sheer Brutality

Sydney band Darkness Reigns is confident and can’t wait to lay it all out on the line with their original hardcore tunes onstage at The Factory Theatre for the semi-finals on the 1st

According to the band, the sound of Darkness Reigns consists of “heavy and in your face guitar driven songs with funky bass lines thrown into the mix along with fuck off heavy drums and vocals.” The Darkness Reigns sound is a combination of both melody and brutality, the primary focus being a break from the mould of the typical Australian Hardcore band. Their influences include: Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, Slipknot, Born of Osiris, Thy Art is Murder and many more.

They say that the vocals capture the intensity involved in screaming while also showcasing a diverse range and a strong understand of technique, giving them an edge over most Australian hardcore bands. The themes this band explores in their songs are dark, and at times twisted. Take for example their song "Walls of Reality" which they say is about coming to grips with insanity by creating a sane world within insanity as it’s seen by the outside world. This also happens to be the song they agree represents the band the best and speaks to their fans. So if you want to get an idea of the band, go check it out, along with another one of their singles “The End” on their Facebook band page.

They’ve experienced a slight change of lifestyle, during their time in the studio, when they finally realized what it takes to work seriously and professionally as a band. Now, they are super pumped, full of energy, and have a positive outlook on bringing their original hardcore music to as many new fans as possible. Their next chance will be at The Factory Theatre for the semi-finals of the Emergenza Festival. Make sure to go see them then. It’s going to be a smack down of in-your-face hardcore music.
