The Puppets: Mixing Indie and Brit Rock with a Singer Songwriter Feel

This young Sydney band are going to put their all into their next live performance at The Factory Theatre on the 1st for the semi-finals and plan to include some of their latest original indie tunes

The Puppets are currently a four-piece band that, despite having to go through several line-up changes, nonetheless, have a steady sound all there own. They draw influences from indie rock and Brit-rock bands like the Arctic Monkeys, The Wombats, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, but take on a slight California feel in their original music. They say that there’s focus on the lyrical content in their songs that may be reminiscent of storytellers like Bob Dylan and Don McLean.

Many of their songs revolve around the beauty and despair of going through adolescence on the North Shore where they grew up. For now, they’re keeping their original releases under wraps, as they’re working on tightening up their tunes and laying down quality studio tracks before actually releasing any original material. You can check out a few covers they do on their Facebook band page. Or, you can just check them out live. They say they’ve been writing a few more tunes for the EP, which they’re eager to play at the next round of the Emergenza Festival. They know they’re up against quality bands, and so they’re looking forward to putting their all into their performance for the semi-finals at The Factory Theatre.

There, you might get a chance to hear one of their singles “Michigan”, which they’ve secretly released to Emergenza. This song is one of their more melancholy tunes, but shows off their melodic maturity, tone, and charming vocals. Be sure to come down and support them on the 1st. You won’t regret it.
