They may come from a whole spectrum of different musical backgrounds, but all of the fourteen finalists that are now gearing up to hit the big stage at The Hi-Fi in Melbourne have one thing in common: dreams of representing Australia on a huge open air stage in Germany. All have heard the incredible stories of last year’s winner, Cuervo, and their mini-tour around Europe following up their killer performance onstage at the Taubertal Open Air Festival. And all of them can picture themselves on that same stage. They’ve worked incredibly hard all year, honing their live performances, collaborating with the festival staff to put on top-level shows, and promoting for their live gigs, filling up the venues with their newfound fans, and now they are finally being rewarded with a spot in the finals.
Without further adieu, the fourteen bands who have made it to the finals at The Hi-Fi in Melbourne are:
Cryptic Abyss
Mercury White
The Fallen Angels
At the Age of 440
James Caddy
The Children of the New Forest
Kid Sidney
Nikhail
Salad Days
Tequila Mockingbyrd
Poppy
Twin Ages
Melissa James
City Sharps
Throughout the competition, these bands have all put on incredible live performances, were noted by the audience, and all won the votes to send them off to the finals. Each band is as unique as the next, and all will have their own approach for getting those votes in during the finals:
Cryptic Abyss will slay the crowd with their heavy metal sound. Mercury White will charm them with their indie pop vibe. The Fallen Angels will storm the stage with their pure, fiery rock and roll, while At the Age of 440 will blow the minds of the audience with their modern prog rock tunes. James Caddy will shock with his musical purity, whereas The Children of the New Forest will inspire with their primitive indie psychedelia. Kid Sidney will wow the crowd with their perfect seven-piece indie pop formula. Nikhail will groove with their pure rock and roll riffs. Salad Days will croon and rock the public, whereas Tequila Mockingbyrd will their shake them and break them with their raging grrrl rock energy. Poppy will have her crowd bouncing to her heavy dance beats; Twin Ages will bring nothing but solid blues riffs and high energy; singer songwriter Melissa James will shine in front of her mega backing band; and the City Sharps will corner the market on the old school rock and roll souls.
It’s sure to be an incredible night at The Hi-Fi as each band is gearing up to put their personal stamp on the stage, all in the hopes of getting one final step closer to the international finals of the Emergenza Festival. It’s bound to be a not-to-be-missed-night in the local Melbourne music scene.
