Defying Hard Rock Genres with AUROX

This Sydney band takes various sub-genres of rock for inspiration but manages to weave them all into a new sound, totally their own

This Sydney band takes their influences from a variety of genres including progressive, alternative, hard rock, post hardcore, blues and heavy metal, but refuse to pigeonhole the project by assigning one of these labels to their music. But, a few words that might come to mind when trying to describe Aurox are “energetic” and “hard-hitting”. Born back in 2010 from the mutual passion for music, the three guys of Aurox jumped straight into song-writing and recording and managed to release their debut self-titled EP almost immediately after their formation. They’ve already got a follow up EP, entitled "Silent Battle Cry", in the works, which they’re planning to release later this year. For now, you can get a small taste of their music by going to their Facebook band page where you can stream their single “The Road”. This one shows off the guitarist’s ability to shred, the vocalist’s ability to wail, and the whole band’s capacity for controlling the dynamics of their songs, creating waves where their songs build to peaks, then crash down to softer, more melodic moments. Other than that, you’re just going to have to check them out live.

They’ve already graced the stage at a long list of local venues and festivals, and they’ve just added The Factory Theatre to the list, with their upcoming gig, where they’re set to battle it out along with five other bands to get to the finals of the Emergenza Festival. They say they’re cautiously optimistic about what sort of opportunities a huge battle of the bands festival like this can produce for a small band. But that caution is not going to get in the way of them putting on a blistering, hard rock show. Don’t miss your opportunity to see them at The Factory Theatre on October 20th.
