    NEWS

They are the DRAWING CLASS. They are a band.

These famous introductory words, stated by the band itself, unfortunately do nothing to some up the incredible impact this electro indie pop band has with its crowd

This band had no trouble at all winning over the crowd at the first round of the festival and are now getting geared up to put on a high-energy show for the semi-finals at The Factory Theatre. If you weren’t there, and aren’t in the loop, as they state very simply, “We are The Drawing Class. We are a band.” Surely, you got the picture clear enough from that statement, but just to fill you in a little further, they are an electro indie rock four-piece from Sydney, who draw their inspiration from, among others, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, Bloc Party, and Art vs. Science.

Their original songs, which you can stream on their Reverbnation or their Facebook band page, “Roll Over”, “Witness” and “Little Piece of Paper (Origami)”, all showcase the bright, energetic female vocalist, as she shines over the tight, catchy rhythm section. “Roll Over” is perhaps the catchiest, but “Witness” gets my vote for the most sassy. This one is where you can hear the biggest influence of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s singer Karen O on the vocalist of The Drawing Class. The lyrics are well-phrased and deep, all telling very visual stories. And the super-fuzzed out tone of the guitar, the great riffs in the bass, and the spacey keys all provide great harmonic structure for the lyrics. Don’t miss your chance to see the raw indie rock performance of The Drawing Class at The Factory Theatre on the 18th. It’s going to be unforgettable.
