JAMES CADDY: From Busking to the Big Stage at The Espy

Melbourne singer songwriter James Caddy has transformed his talent for busking into one for the stage, and has already made it to the semi-finals of the Emergenza Festival

James Caddy is an acoustic roots rock singer songwriter, who gained his musical ground by busking on the streets of Melbourne, where he developed his own unique sound, reminiscent at times of bands like the John Butler Trio and Powderfinger, but always unmistakable his own. If you go to his Soundcloud, you’ll see that he’s got quite a repertoire of original songs too. The one he admits has the biggest effect with his audiences is “This Old Fool”. He says, “It’s a pure, honest song about making mistakes and losing something special. It leaves me very open and vulnerable. Once you offer that vulnerability people tend to be able to relate... everyone can relate to heartbreak!”

Well, he’s certainly not all heartbreak on stage. “Baby Boy”, another one of his originals, is a light-hearted ballad on ukulele that talks about the love shared between a father and his newborn son. One of his goals as a performer is to send his audience on a journey with his diverse set, where he explores different emotional content in each song. Don’t miss out on your next chance to take a musical trip with James Caddy. He hits the stage at The Espy on the 17th. Get ready for the ride!
