    Getting to Know MELISSA JAMES

As Melbourne female singer songwriter gears up for her gig at the semi-finals of the Emergenza Festival in Melbourne, she takes time out to talk to us

Self-described as breezy and bright, with depth, it’s hard to understand why you wouldn’t be at least curious to check out this Melbourne female singer songwriter: Melissa James. You can’t miss your next opportunity to see her play live. She’s already made it through the first round of the Emergenza Festival and is now on her way to the semi-finals, and she’s looking forward to getting on that stage and showing the boys how it’s done. But before the show, she sits down with Emergenza to let us in on what makes her the great performer that she is.

CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHO MELISSA JAMES IS AS A PERFORMER?

As a performer, I would like to be seen as someone who is confident and comfortable being on stage with the boys. I love what I do.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?

Many: firstly, I enjoyed the night, was grateful to be playing my originals, and finally the crowd was awesome!!!! And I've struck up some good friendships with some artists.

WHICH ONE OF YOUR SONGS DO YOU FEEL SPEAKS TO THE FANS AND REPRESENTS YOU AS AN ARTIST THE BEST?

“Beautiful Day” is a fun, breezy, bright tune with a bit of depth, which sums me up.

UP TO THIS POINT, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?

Up to this point I have had a great career and have been luckier than some. But like most of us you want to take things to the limit!

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLE SO FAR?

Haha… there can be many obstacles in the music industry. But staying positive and focused is important. You could be signed up to a major label one day and dropped the next!

HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?

I’m just rapt to have made it through to the next round. I can’t wait to hit the stage with boys and have some fun with the crowd, hopefully there's a massive one!!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?

I hope to win, but my band and I will be amongst some good company, so all I could ask for is for my band and I to rock it out and have fun.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?

I found Emergenza to be more exciting and it’s a worldwide event.
