Breaking Down the Barrier with SEVERANCE

This Sydney metal band is busy shredding it in and out of the studio in preparation for their show at The Factory Theatre on the 20th, but in the meantime, they sit down to chat with Emergenza

Severance has been concentrating on honing the best explosive metal sound possible, both in and out of the studio, in order to get the best reaction out of their audience as possible. They are psyched for their upcoming gig at The Factory Theatre, where they plan to play in front of their biggest audience of their career so far. Don’t miss a chance to witness it for yourself. Before the show, they hang out with Emergenza to let us in on what they’re doing to get ready for the big concert date.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT WHO SEVERANCE ARE?

Severance are the newest blend of the metal genre. We are a six-piece band who incorporate a bone crushing mix of brutal breakdowns, the most beautiful melodic choruses and funky progressive passages. Our massive live sound always produces the wildest crowd reaction and is something everyone should come to witness in our semi-final round.

WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO YOUR ONSTAGE PERFORMANCES?

Our onstage performances require a lot of energy both physically and mentally in order to give the crowd an entertaining show to feed off of. Stage arrangements are crucial to controlling such a big sound created by 6 members, however we are managing and improving every show to pull this off!

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?

The highlight of our first round was definitely the overwhelming crowd response and the fact that we rounded up the most votes across all the first-round heats.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?

We are learning as a band that the more we practise and take live music serious as a job and even a career, the more professional we look and sound live.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?

We are all ecstatic to be progressing this far and cannot wait to unleash one of our biggest live sets to what is going to be our biggest crowd yet.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
In preparation for the big semi final, Severance have been preparing a lot of new material with improved studio quality for the release of our iTunes tracks coming up. A lot more practise to focus on the specifics of our live performance has been helping us improve and sound tighter than ever. Social network updates, promotion and ticket selling have also been big part in the lead up to our semi final round.

HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO PROMOTE FOR YOUR UPCOMING GIG?

Promotion for our upcoming gig will include the release of a special new cover song as well as our three original, studio-quality iTunes tracks. We have been working a lot on recording these last few months to really give our fans the best quality we can produce to them at our stage. We believe quality is an aspect that really contributes to the experience and attraction of a band and so this is what we have been striving for.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST ABOUT THIS ROUND IN THE SEMI-FINALS?

In this upcoming semi-final round we are really looking forward to playing on the massive stage at the Factory Theatre, which will definitely help us translate our live energy and enthusiasm to one of our biggest crowds yet. We look forward to gaining new fans and hopefully pushing forward into the grand-final!
