Kidding Around with the Ladies of KID SYDNEY

Local all-female group Kid Sidney chat with Emergenza about how the first round went and what’s going down during the semi-finals at The Espy

Don’t be confused by Kid Sidney. They may be kiddish, quirky and cute, but they really know how to rock! They’ve already made it through round one of the Emergenza Festival and are now on their way to the semi-finals: point proven. Your next chance to see these young ladies grace the stage will be on the 18th at The Espy in Melbourne. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to support your local female talent, and rock out to some great tunes! In the meantime, you can hear straight from the band how it all happened, and what’s in store for the semi-finals.

CAN YOU GIVE US A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE SOUND OF KID SIDNEY?

Our sound is pretty alternative. We have a quirky sound and all of our songs are unique featuring vocal harmonies and different drum beats.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?

The highlight of the first round for Kid Sidney was being able to perform somewhere with really great sound professionals and having so much support for our band.

WHICH ONE OF YOUR SONGS DO YOU FEEL SPEAKS TO THE FANS AND REPRESENTS THE BAND THE BEST?

It would have to be our favourite of our original songs so far, which is “Eyes”. We all really enjoy playing it and it seems that our audiences enjoy listening to it just as much.

UP TO THIS POINT, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN THE BAND'S BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?

Seeing that we were number one band of the month on the Emergenza site was a big accomplishment for us, getting 108 votes for our gig was an awesome feeling.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLES SO FAR?

Our biggest obstacle as a band was getting a set amount of original tracks written and practiced by our gig, but we managed to do it in time so we were pretty psyched to debut two brand new originals for our first round at The Espy basement.

HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?

It feels pretty great. We love performing, so being able to take that a step further by playing in the Gershwin room at The Espy will be sweet. We'd love to make it to the Hi-Fi too, but we're taking each round as it comes.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?

More experience and hopefully more confidence with performing our original tracks live.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?

Emergenza looked like a really well organised and popular competition, it seemed to open up a lot of opportunities for our band in the future so we thought we'd give it a shot.
