    Crossing over with CRYPTIC ABYSS

Emergenza takes time to understand this metal band a bit better before their next gig for the semi-finals at the Espy on the 16th

Self-described as metal with a groovy thrash twist, your curiosity should already be piqued. They will make you bang your heads along with their often dark-themed original songs and are stoked about getting their chance to do just that at the semi-finals of the Emergenza Festival in Melbourne. Before the show, they explained to us a bit about their experience during the first round, and what they hope to get out of the next round at The Espy on the 16th.

CAN YOU GIVE US A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE SOUND OF CRYPTIC ABYSS?

Metal, with a groovy thrash twist

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?

Our highlight of it was playing at a great venue like the Espy for our first gig and seeing people throw down in a mosh that we did not expect would happen- that was a great feeling.

WHICH ONE OF YOUR SONGS DO YOU FEEL SPEAKS TO THE FANS AND REPRESENTS THE BAND THE BEST?

All of our songs represent a small part of each of us, or at least send a message about life and what comes with it, either good or bad, whether we believe in it or not. The point of our songs is to take what you will from their messages. Not to say we are religion haters, church burners or condone any of the above. That’s NOT the case at all. It’s just music, and we love to bang our heads to it. As for fans, let’s leave that up to them!

UP TO THIS POINT, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN THE BAND'S BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?

So far playing our first gig and getting into the next round of Emergenza has been our biggest accomplishment, hopefully the first of many!

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLES SO FAR?

We haven’t really had many obstacles so far, but if we had to name one we would say writer’s block. We aren’t about doing things mediocre. We like to get everything as perfect as we can and put in 110%.

HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?

Unreal, being different to a lot of the bands that we have played with so far at Emergenza, we really didn’t even expect to do so well this far- it’s a great feeling!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?

Some great memories of doing what we live for. If we get some new fans and get even further into the competition, then shit fuckin’ hot!

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?

We take any and EVERY opportunity we can get to do what we love and live for, and Emergenza looked like a great opportunity to get our name and sound out there. Another small step closer to conquering the world!
