    Getting to Know AIMEE

Up and coming Melbourne pop queen AIMEE talks to Emergenza about what writing music means to her and what she gets out of performing

AIMEE has spent the majority of her time in the studio recently, recording her latest single “Golden Smiles”, a teaser for her soon to be released EP, the tracks for which are already being laid down as we speak. But while you’re waiting for that to come out, you will have to check her out live at the Espy on the 21st this month. Before the show, she takes time out of the studio to talk to Emergenza about what song-writing means to her, where she gets her inspiration from, and what’s in store for her live show.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START AS A SINGER SONGWRITER AND HOW DID YOU GET TOGETHER WITH YOUR CURRENT BAND?

I started writing music as a teenager and developed a passion for performing and song writing. I got together with my current band while studying music at university in Melbourne.

WHAT DOES WRITING MUSIC MEAN TO YOU? CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SONG WRITING PROCESS?

Song writing is one of the most amazing parts of my life. Most of the time I still can't believe I can even write a song. My song writing process usually begins with just me and my piano. I generally start with the melody and music, and the lyrics come later. Once I have a song that I'm happy with I take it to my band and we arrange it from a solo piece to a band arrangement.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?

I guess I draw my inspiration from life experience, but also I am inspired by other people's stories, adventures, and challenges. As a singer-song writer, my whole goal is to inspire people to try harder and do better, even when they don't believe they can. I want to inspire people to be the best version of themselves, so I draw a lot of inspiration from that as well.

    WHAT’S YOUR PRACTICE SPACE LIKE?

We practise in James' (Drummer) living room actually. He has a full set up with a Nord Keyboard!! (the love of my life, haha). It's a perfect place for us to practice actually.

YOU JUST RELEASED YOUR FIRST SINGLE "GOLDEN SMILES". IS THERE AN EP ATTACHED TO IT, OR ANY PLANS FOR MORE RECORDING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Yes I have recorded an EP with the band, which I am planning to release at the end of the year. Hopefully we will be back in the studio soon. I love recording!

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN EMERGENZA?

The opportunities the competition offers. It's a great event and we are so excited to be involved.

HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THIS STAGE IN THE COMPETITION?

    Regular rehearsal and promoting.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT THE FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE?

Performing! Whether we make it through one round or win the whole thing, I just love being on stage and sharing my music with people.

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO PROMOTE FOR YOUR UPCOMING GIG AT THE EPSY?

Facebook, internet and hassling friends and family until they can't say no! haha

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM THE EMERGENZA EXPERIENCE?

Performing experience, meeting people, networking with other bands, and hopefully more fans.
