Better Put on Your MONSTER JEANS

Grunge band MONSTER JEANS explore the “next best thing” to garage: grunge

In their own words: “We are Monster Jeans, and the garage we started in didn't allow us to play garage rock, so here we are, trying the next best thing.” Well, the next best thing just happens to be a mysteriously cool mix of grunge, splashy hard rock, with a huge element of noise. At times the guitar tone seems to be taken right out of a Rage Against the Machine song, but the vocals stay true to the gritty, incomprehensible nature of grunge at its very best. Very fittingly, their four-track debut EP is called Be The Noise. It includes standouts like “Here on Earth”, where you can here the Morello in the guitar more than ever as well as the Cobain in the vocals. They’ve been filling up their schedule in 2013 with gigs around Melbourne, including shows at the Revolver and Cherry Bar.

For now, you can stream them on their Reverb, but to get the full effect of their sound, you’ve got to see them live. Your next chance to see them will be will be this Friday the 20th at the Epsy. Dress code: Monster Jeans.
