This alternative metal band from Sydney mixes heavy hitting, modern metal with a more old school, California hardcore feel, quoting anything from Fugazi to bands like Godsmack and the Deftones. They’ve got a debut album in the works, and in the meantime are trying to get as much exposure and experience on the stage as possible. They’re super pumped to play the Lair and say that they’ve got an insane show planned for their fans who show up. Don’t miss your chance to see them this coming Thursday the 29th. Before the show, they sit down with us to talk about their inspirations and their expectations of the Emergenza experience.

HOW DID YOU GET TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Over five years we slowly formed from just two brothers jamming, Luke and Reece, adding and losing members ‘til September 2012 we finally formed ‘A Gentlemen’s Agreement’ and got stuck into writing songs for our EP.

WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME?
After long, boring discussions about band names, ‘A Gentlemen’s Agreement’ was suggested and we loved it. It really described the fraternity between us: four brothers taking on the world.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Raw. Emotional. Metal.

WHAT’S YOUR PRACTICE SPACE LIKE?
We practice in our drummer’s bedroom above a garage, separate from the house. It’s a small tight space, but we all manage to fit. Occasionally we move downstairs into the garage itself for more room, to stretch the legs.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN EMERGENZA?
We try to never say no to any band opportunities, always after something new to experience, meet new people and to have the chance to play on some amazing stages.

HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THIS STAGE IN THE COMPETITION?
A lot of practice! We are practicing in larger spaces to work on our presentation, aiming to create an insane show for the night. Maybe even throw some surprises in the mix…

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT THE FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE?
The chance to play alongside some other acts in front of their fans in order to get our name out further. It’s also going to be amazing to play on some real stages in some incredible venues.

WHAT WILL BE THE KEY TO MOVING YOU FORWARD THROUGH ALL THE STEPS OF THE COMPETITION?
Amazing music, fresh music, and a solid fan base!

HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER BANDS, AND WHAT MAY HELP TO GET YOU TO THE FINALS?
We like to think we have a somewhat original sound. And we are working hard to make our set lists for each night tight and memorable for each gig.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM THE EMERGENZA EXPERIENCE?
More contacts with other bands, venues and fans, get our name out there further for more to hear. At the end if we get one new fan from this we won something.
