As they state, very simply, “We are The Drawing Class. We are a band.” Surely, you got the picture clear enough from that statement, but just to fill you in a little further, they are an electro indie rock four-piece from Sydney, who draw their inspiration from, among others, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, Bloc Party, and Art vs. Science. They’re no copy artists though. Their original songs, which you can stream on their Reverbnation, “Roll Over”, “Witness” and “Little Piece of Paper (Origami)”, all showcase the bright, energetic female vocalist, as she shines over the tight, catchy rhythm section. Sure, she gets some inspiration in attitude from the great Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but she has her own style, that’s slightly more infused with the aesthetics of old school hard rock and roll.
The songs all have strong bass lines, which drive the melody of the songs forward, accenting the vocal lines in all the right spots. The choruses are so catchy, they will have you singing along from the first listen, but the band never shies away from the rock and roll grittiness that will make you feel right at home with them in the great rock venue, the Lair. Don’t miss your chance to see them there on the 29th of this month.
