Velocet offers melodic vocals backed by powerful instrumental nuances.

Uniting two genres that go hand-in-hand very well, this five piece scores major points as far as music as well as crowd entertainment.

Just over a year ago, five musicians crossed paths and decided to form the progressive rock/metal band Velocet. They sat down, came up with some tunes, booked some shows and the rest is history – or should I say the rest is up to the future. So far, the band has had a decent amount of success both onstage – playing live shows at some of Sydney’s most well known and respected venues – as well as in the studio, their achievement being marked by the recent release of their 5 song, self-titled EP. Not bad for a band made up of relatively young musicians with many priorities. They’ve made it pretty clear however that their number one priority is to play as many live shows as possible and put out more and more new music.

So far, the five songs they’ve released have been very well received. Respecting the boundaries of both progressive rock as well as metal, their music is packed with guitar solos, a well-synchronized drum & bass section and vocals that speak with meaning to the audience. Elements of the instrumental sections in their songs definitely reflect their metal influences, but the vocal and arrangement of the music all together definitely speak of prog rock. Awake, for instance, with it’s long instrumental interludes, the melodic vocal and drum & bass accents is an excellent example of the marriage of these two genres.

With shows at a number of local venues under their belt, Velocet is looking to take their music across the country and eventually the world as well. They appear to be on the right track as their ensemble gains momentum and their songs are increasingly popular on the various digital distribution and streaming sites. The band seems to be very good at engaging their fans via their online band profiles, which is evidenced by the fact that they’ve been able to support a number shows where they’ve headline. On July 7th they will be playing as one of 8 bands – taking part in the first round of the Emergenza Music Festival at the Lair @ Metro.
