These seriously dedicated youngsters from Melbourne, The Spitting Swallows, are all smiles when it comes to putting on a great show. Their slightly funky take on the classic pop punk formula is sure to get you moving, so don’t miss the chance to see them at the Epsy basement this Friday, the 22nd. They’ve taken just a few minutes to talk to Emergenza about their groove and what’s in store for their live show at the Epsy.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU GOT TOGETHER AS A BAND?
The band formed in early 2012. Wes (bass), Stiv (drums) and Jarrad (Guitar) were all friends through out high school and then through a mutual friend they met Chris (singer). After plenty of bonding beers, realising that we all played instruments and actually liked music The Spitting Swallows was formed.
WHAT ARE YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?
Our music inspiration vary quite a lot and range from Blink 182, The Mars Volta, Guns and Roses, Enrique Iglesias, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and so much more.
YOU KEEP YOUR BAND PAGE PRETTY WELL STOCKED WITH MUSIC, VIDEOS, AND IMAGES. WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK THAT PLAYS FOR YOU AS A BAND?
Just want to share the love. The tunes let everyone know what we are about. We try to keep up the interaction between with friends to keep the good vibes going.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR SERIOUS RECORDING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
We are currently recording an E.P., which we are hoping to have finished within the next month or so. Then we can look ahead and start planning for an album.
WHAT PERSUADED YOU TO JOIN EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?
Well we didn't need much persuading. We just love playing and being on stage and when the opportunity came to join the Emergenza Festival we jumped at it.
DO YOU HAVE A STRATEGY FOR GETTING TO THE FINALS?
I guess our strategy would be just to do what we do and hope that people like it! If everyone is into it we will be happy.
WHAT IS A LIVE SPITTING SWALLOWS SHOW LIKE?
We would like to think it's amazing, haha.. I think we bring a lot of energy and chemistry to the stage and can capture an audience with our mix of catchy pop/punk/rock songs.
