Stone Desert was started by 2 South Americans who moved from Colombia in hopes of colonizing the musical world of Australia. There, they met their 3rd member and it was love at first jam. They can’t wait to get their music to the Australian masses, and are looking forward to psyching you out on the 22nd of June at the Epsy. Before the show, they’ve let us in on how the magic happens and how best to take part in their groove.

HOW DID YOU GUYS FIRST GET TOGETHER?

Back in Colombia Camilo and Jhon Tenox used to go to the same parties. One night, while waiting at Camilo’s house, they bonded over music and jammed out. Camilo decided to move to Melbourne right after that, and John, drawn by the magica; musical connection, decided to follow. They searched for different musicians for 5 months before finding the right compliment. Then, finally, there was Mauro De Palma, whom Camilo met at a festival in the bush. When the 3 of them jammed for the first time, they felt a new cosmic energy that none of them had ever felt before. It was too powerful to deny. Mauro joined the band and that was the beginning for Stone Desert.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T HEARD YOU?
The sound we produce on stage is supernatural, like a dynamite exploding in your brain. This is a sound that will wake you up, that will make you dance until you can’t feel your body, that will take you into a trance of madness that will help you to find rationality.

WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FOR YOUR ORIGINAL MATERIAL?
Our songs get inspired from everything that is around us. Our songs analyse our society, the system in which we live and in which we are slaves. This is a second view of how we perceive reality and ourselves. The songs talk about love, madness, philosophy, partying, dimensions, war, chaos, freedom, beauty, evil, drugs and Australian girls.

WHAT’S YOUR REHEARSAL SPACE LIKE?
We practice in Camilo’s house. We have a big studio room, with a drum kid, 5 amps (one for bass, one for guitar, and two for vocals) this space is decorated with different art pictures and rock posters that bring inspiration when the time comes for writing songs together.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC?
We work and party. Jhon Tenox is studying music production. Mauro produces and works in live music. Camilo works in a punk compilation. We also have a business called Salsa Rock ‘N Roll night, where we teach people how to dance salsa, but it’s also just a good party to hear excellent live bands.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT THE FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE?
Nothing more than the feeling of sharing our music with the people, to wake people up by showing them the magic of the Stone Desert sound.
