Hanging out with EIGHT DAYS OF AUTUMN

Emergenza takes the time to get to know 8 Days of Autumn before they kick off their Emergenza run this Friday at the Epsy

These full-time students still find it in them to rock out on a regular basis and are super geared up to showcase their sound on the 21st at the Epsy. You can look forward to a kick ass show full of high energy, wailing melodic riffs, and earworm vocals. Before the show, they let us in on what makes them the band they are, where they find their pop punk groove, as well as the time to write.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE FORMATION OF EIGHT DAYS OF AUTUMN?

Eight Days of Autumn kind of appeared out of the remains of a band called Beautiful Enigma, who managed to play a few gigs in late 2010, performing covers.
We were all completing our VCE at the time and so music was our way of getting together and hanging out in order to forget about the stress of school.

WERE YOU SERIOUSLY A METAL-CORE BAND BEFORE SWITCHING TO YOUR POP-PUNK SOUND?

Hahaha. No. We were never actually a metal core band! Although it took us a while to determine which direction we wanted our sound to head in. We're all into various types of music.

WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME?

We were jamming one day and we had a realization that whatever this was, it needed a name. It was the 8th of March and we ended up settling on Eight Days of Autumn. It was the day we had kind of stepped up and decided that we were all determined to take this somewhere other than the school music room or the garage.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS UP TO WHEN YOU’RE NOT MAKING MUSIC?

Matt is currently completing year 12, Sam and Peter are working, basically full time and I'm at Uni. If we're not playing music in our down time, we're usually just finding spontaneous things to do, trying to form life-lasting memories.

    WHAT’S YOUR REHEARSAL SPACE LIKE?

At the moment we usually rehearse in my garage. We have to work around a bit of gym equipment but it's pretty rad. We don't have very high spec gear so rehearsals aren't the greatest sound quality!

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?

We joined Emergenza because we're really grabbing at every opportunity that comes across our path to get gigs and get our name out there. We really want to make an impact and Emergenza seemed like it'd help us do that.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL CARRY YOU GUYS TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?

I think that if we were to get to the Emergenza finals it'll be due to our common passion for music. We try and write songs that we'll enjoy playing and that people can relate to, so hopefully that will be a contributing factor.
