    BAND INTERVIEW: DANISH

Before their show at the Epsy this Friday, Melbourne band Danish takes the time to sit down with Emergenza

Motivated by the pure satisfaction of playing music together, these guys are full of energy, and drive. They’re also full of raw talent, and are ready to rock their instruments, including the sax, at their live show at the Epsy this Friday. Get ready to dance to their jazzy alternative rock beat and bask in the beaming smiles and positive energy, which will grace the Epsy stage. To satisfy your pre-concert curiosity, they’ve answered a few of our questions.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE FORMATION OF THE BAND?

So Danish started out as a bit of an experiment. We were all musicians playing around school, but primarily we were all friends. Kieren, Joel and I had known each other for quite some time and one day we finally plucked up the courage to play some music together. The initial band was a little different. My friend Annie was on vocals and one of the guy's friends was on drums. We picked up the others around and about. Campbell went on a camp with us and was amazing, and Susie came along when I was in struggle town with my fairly basic piano abilities - and she is an amazing singer! The group turned out to be heaps of fun, so we continued to rehearse!

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE 3 WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

    jazzy alternative rock

HOW DID THE NAME DANISH COME ABOUT?

It's not the most exciting story, but basically at our first band meeting, when we were pondering on possible names, we happened to be eating a novelty foot long danish. I suppose we were too absorbed in its deliciousness to think of anything else!

WHERE ARE YOU GUYS PLAYING GIGS NOW, AND WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS FOR THE FUTURE?

For now we're playing small local gigs. We have played at the Espy, in a battle of the bands and Young Guns festival. The ultimate goal I suppose is just to play and keep playing! It would be amazing to meet other bands and do a bit of work together, travel, but first and foremost, gigs, many gigs.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO RECORD ANY TIME SOON?

Recently we got a really good deal doing some recordings with a friend of mine who needed a band for his uni work. That was an amazing opportunity, and when we build up a larger repertoire it would be amazing to do more.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?

Emergenza sounds like an amazing experience, which we really couldn't turn down. It seems like a great means of meeting other bands and gaining some exposure.

WHAT IS YOUR AUDIENCE IN STORE FOR WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR LIVE SHOWS?

Our audience could really be faced with anything! Usually there's some jazzy sax soloing, maybe a bit of funk, maybe something more tranquil. Our style may fluctuate a bit, but there's always room for a bit of a dance.
