THE STUMPY CHUMPS SIT DOWN WITH EMERGENZA

This Melbourne band lets us in on what makes their signature Alt Rock/Funk/Psych sound

Forced into a line-up change at the last minute, this band won’t be discouraged. They are determined to impress you nonetheless with a live show full of funk rhythm and soulful instrumentals. They take time to answer our questions about their signature alt rock/funk/psych sound and let us in on their song writing process as well as what we can expect from a live Stumpy Chumps show. Don’t miss your chance to see them play. They’re set to open the show at the Epsy basement on the 21st of June.

YOU’RE DESCRIBED AS ALT ROCK/FUNK/PSYCHEDELIC. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE PSYCHEDELIC COMPONENT TO YOUR SOUND?
We tend to have long instrumentals in which we mess around with different sounds. We discovered we had a psychedelic vibe when we started to jam! We decided to incorporate that into many of our songs.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED GIGS BEFORE?

We've played gigs at Thornbury Theatre as well as fares and parties and many battle of the bands!

WHAT’S YOUR SINGLE ON THE EMERGENZA SITE? HOW DID THAT SONG COME ABOUT?

That song is a demo of our song "So Called Prophecy."
It started with the bass line you can hear at the start and it became a jam! Our singer Xavier worked on some lyrics and we recorded it in a bedroom!

    WHERE DO YOU GUYS PRACTICE?

We practice at our bassist Jordan's place, in Sandringham.

WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL METHOD FOR COMING UP WITH ORIGINAL SONGS?

    Usually,
Jordan or Finn (guitarist) come up with a riff or bass line and we jam with it and mould it into something that sounds okay.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO ENTER EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?

Well I just saw an ad online, and we were looking for somewhere to play - I thought I had found the jackpot!

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR LIVE SHOW IN MELBOURNE?

First of all you can expect our replacement singer Steph as our singer had to fly to Scotland for family reasons. We focus on our musicality and tightness as a group. There should be a sense of fun and excitement on stage!
