    Band Interview: The Lizard Skeleton

This Brisbane band recounts their tale of strange zoological cross-pollination

Want to see an emu, a snake, a raccoon, and a sloth rock out on stage? You have to come see the Lizard Skeleton. They’ve got an original brand of music called Funky-Punky-Rock, which is guaranteed to get you up on your feet and out on the dance floor. Don’t miss these guys the 13th of May at X&Y in Brisbane. They won’t disappoint. Before the show, they’re taking a bit of their time to answer our many questions.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR FORMATION AND WHAT HELPS BRING YOU GUYS TOGETHER AS MUSICIANS?

We have Jason on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Kyle on lead guitar, Nicholas on bass and Zac on drums. What helps bring us together musically is our passion for the type of music that we love. It also helps that being in a band with my mates means that we get to be as outrageous as we want to be and nobody is gonna judge anybody else.

CAN YOU ENLIGHTEN US ABOUT ALL OF YOUR ANIMAL ALTER EGOS?

Now the animal alter ego case came about because of our bassist's tendency to look like he’s attacking something with his head while he head bangs, which is why he’s the Emu. I'm the Snake because of the way I dance during our funky songs, Kyle is the raccoon because many nights of sleep depravity have left his eyelids to look like a raccoon and Zac is the sloth because... he’s the sloth.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS WITH THIS PROJECT? WHAT DO YOU GUYS HAVE IN STORE FOR US IN THE FUTURE?

This isn't a hobby thing for us, we're looking to strike it big and we're going to try our best to do so. Turn this hobby into a career and show everybody just how much we can rock out, so hopefully in the future you'll be hearing from us a LOT.

AS A LISTENER, I IMMEDIATELY GRAVITATED TO YOUR SONG “WHY HELLO”. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT HOW THIS SONG CAME ABOUT?

We're huge fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so having a funk song was needed for us. Kyle came up with that funky ass guitar riff that everybody loves and Nick slaps that bass like nobody’s business, Zac and I just followed suit and it was basically right place right time. Watch out for more funky material at this next gig too.

WHAT LED YOU TO ENROLL IN EMERGENZA?
Our love of playing to people and having fun is what had drawn us to enroll, we're a gigging band and we're looking forward to more.

WHAT PART OF THE FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST?
The festival experience in and of itself is gonna be unbelievably awesome to us, really looking forward to meeting other bands and rocking out, plus... Germany.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL SET YOU APART FROM THE REST OF THE BANDS AND HELP GET YOU TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
We're different, we don't stick to a certain genre and our musical talents come from varied backgrounds. We're fun, always willing to make a nice night out for a crowd, no matter how big or small and last but not least, we love playing music.
