    8TH EDGE- Rock and Roll

8th Edge Hoping to Edge Out the Competition on the 12th of May at X&Y Brisbane

This group of veteran musicians, together for over 7 years, certainly hopes to have an edge over some of the newbies this year in Emergenza. They’re a bunch of guys fueled by live gigs, shameless about promoting the band, joining festivals, and otherwise doing whatever it takes to make it happen.

They say they don’t want to be pigeonholed into a category, and interestingly enough, they do sound like a hodgepodge of basically every band they listed as influences, primarily Hoobastank, Mudvayne and Metallica.

‘Loaded Gun’ is probably their strongest song. The guitar starts a gritty call to arms, which is amplified by the drums when they kick in, giving a more rushed sound to the song. The breakdown slows it all down again, “don’t break me down…” before rocketing us again toward the finale.

Melodically, ‘Bleed’ is really nice. The vocals go from the volume of a whisper, floating the melody elegantly over the chord changes, then go into a growl, never amping up the volume though. It’s that kind of vocal restraint that separates the pros from the rest.

On their website, you can find tons of live videos, which should get you geared up to come down to X&Y on the 13th of May to see them play.
