Since all the members of the band operate with animal alter egos, perhaps I should just describe them as being made up of the Snake, the Raccoon, the Emu, and the Sloth. Wait… the Sloth on drums? Well, I’ll leave that up to you guys to figure out.
Their first 3 songs which you can listen to on their Facebook are basically really live sounding, and what I would frame as sort of drunken Punk-Rock sing-alongs, with the occasional vocal harmony alluding to something slightly more profound.
Naturally, I was about to start a petition to get these guys into a recording studio stat, until out of nowhere came the single ‘Why Hello’. In contrast to the splashy-ness of the previous recordings, this one is clear, dry, and tight. Finally I can hear the slappy bass and funk guitar rifts that epitomize their self-coined genre of Funky Punky Rock.
‘Why Hello’ is seriously catchy, literally making you want to listen to it over and over. If I were them, I would promote the hell out of this single and continue following this direction musically. But they’re not looking for advice, they’re looking to rock out for you guys at their next concert, so be sure to check them out May 13th at X&Y.
