Sydney's GO MASON GO rocks the Metro stage

Emergenza's finalists tell us about their experience at the legendary Metro Theatre.

Go Mason Go is a young 4 piece from Sydney. We interviewed them by phone from our offices in London and we had a general chat about the weather, holidays and girls....oh, yeah, and their rocking set at the Metro theatre in December.

HELLO GUYS, IT'S BEEN A FEW WEEKS SINCE YOUR PERFORMANCE ON THE STAGE AT THE WORLD FAMOUS METRO THEATRE IN SYDNEY, ARE YOUR MEMORIES STILL FRESH?
Yeah it's been a couple of weeks but I don't think we'll ever forget that gig. It will forever remain in my head. It was an amazing experience. I'm still speechless.

ON THE PHONE YOU SAID IT WAS AWESOME AND ALSO THAT IT FELT SURREAL, WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
I guess because its not the usual gig like at a party or at school or at a smaller venue, so its makes it a lot more special. The metro is the history of music. But also because it was a competition with a really cool prize. We loved every minute.

YOU ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS WELL ORGANIZED AND THAT THE METRO WAS INCREDIBLY RUN, DO YOU THINK THIS IS WHAT PROFESSIONAL BANDS FEEL LIKE WHEN WORKING IN BIG VENUES?
yeah guess at a show of your own there would be a lot of focus on specifics for each individual rather than every one uses the same equipment. I felt really well looked after. Like a proper rock star!

YOU TOLD ME YOU HAVE MADE SOME FRIENDS DURING THE COMPETITION, DO YOU THINK FROM A SOCIAL POINT OF VIEW IT WAS WORTH THE EXPERIENCE?
Yeah we talked to a few of the bands and made some connections, which is really good. Yeah well worth the experience.

YOU BEING A YOUNG BAND YOU PRACTICE A LOT AS MUSICIANS AND SO YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT ISN'T FROM A TECHNICAL POINT OF VIEW, DO YOU THINK THE LEVEL OF MUSICIANSHIP WAS HIGH AT THE NATIONAL FINAL?

It was really good to see variety in genres, styles and song writing. It shows a lot of musical talent to be original and make something your own and think a lot of the bands did that and sounded good.

APART FROM THE FUN AND GAMES, WHAT ELSE DID YOU GET FROM DOING THE EMERGENZA FESTIVAL? DO YOU THINK YOU DEVELOPED AS A BAND?
Well, the venues is a key point understanding the you got to be on time and time limits. Preparation was another thing we got out of it, having to meet up for technical meetings and things like that. it felt really professional.

YOU DID WELL ON YOUR PROMOTION THROUGH THE SEASON BEFORE GOING TO THE NATIONAL FINAL, DO YOU THINK YOU'VE IMPROVED ON YOUR PROMOTIONAL SKILLS? DID WE, BY TEACHING YOU TO PROMOTE HARDER, HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT ON YOU?
We were lucky to have a lot of people there in the earlier stages but for the national final a lot of our friends at our boarding school went home for school holidays so we didnt have many hahah. but yes our promoting skills were improved.

..AND FINALLY, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NEW UP-COMING BANDS THAT ARE THINKING ABOUT DOING THE EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?
yeah do it, I cannot stress how much fun it was. it's a fantastic experience.
