We definitely didn't anticipate the outcome. We knew we were going to be playing alongside some phenomenal bands at some great venues. However, we still believed we had a chance at winning, hence our entry into the competition, but only if we worked as hard as we possibly could.
Out of all the contest/battle of the bands events that are going on, what made you guys choose Emergenza?
We were aware of the history of Emergenza and what was at stake if we entered and won so there was no way of us passing up that possibility.
Will this be Cuervo’s first international/overseas gig? What are you hoping to get out of it?
Yeah, this'll be our first trip overseas as a band. We just hope to gain some more exposure, share a new experience with each other and spread our music to more people. If something else comes along such as a recording or gigging opportunity, that'd be pretty awesome too.
Have you thought about any other plans for this trip to Europe?
Yes definitely. We'll be starting work on a brand new EP in the new year to take over with us, as well as some other merchandise like t-shirts. We've also been tossing around the idea of working with someone to organise more gigs whilst we're over there.
How would you say taking part in the Emergenza Festival has helped you guys evolve as a band?
We've definitely grown closer due to all the preparation and we've started writing, playing and working together more efficiently. Every painful little detail in our songs had to be close to perfect to ensure we played the best sets possible. When there's something as big as a free trip to Germany on the line, there's not a lot of room for complacency.
What would you say was the most rewarding part of this event for you?
I guess the obvious answer would be winning, but it was really so great to have the opportunity to play in front of so many people alongside some of the best bands we've ever played with.
What are the plans for Cuervo for 2013?
As mentioned before, we'll start work on/record a new EP, get some merchandise happening, probably learn some German and just mainly prepare for the trip. Being our first time gigging overseas, we want to try to get the most out of it.
