You must be super stoked to be the winner of the nearly 50 bands that started out in the festival in Brisbane. Tell us a little about the emotions and thoughts as the winners were being announced?
Yeah we are super stoked alright! Quite surprised too, our fans and us were all on edge when they were calling out the runner ups and then 5th, 4th, 3rd. We quickly became super nervous after we realised our name hadn't been called out and there’s only two spots left and when they called us and the other band on stage our fans started cheering and we suddenly got a pretty overwhelming feeling of nerves and excitement. Even on stage we were really hoping to win but we still weren't too confident, we actually thought the other band was going to win haha. So when the mc called our name out for the winners of the comp we were so stoked! Biggest shock and biggest relief, all the hard work had paied off, it was an awesome feeling!
What would you say was the most rewarding part of this event for you?
The most rewarding part of the event would definitely have to be when our fans, friends and family all arrived on a bus from the sunshine coast, half of them with our new Soula shirts on. The fact that all those people, some from brissy as well as the coast, put in their time and money just to support us was a pretty humbling feeling and it meant so much to us as a band. This competition showed how much of a support they all actually are.
Aside from winning and bringing home the grand prize, what do you hope to get from the regional final?
Well aside from winning I think the main thing we hope to get from the regional final is the experience. The experience of travelling with the band, playing at a prestigious venue in sydney, meeting industry professionals and getting tighter as a band. We'll be playing to win, and will be over the moon if we do, but if we don't we'll all just be happy that we got to Sydney in the first place.
What do you think this experience has contributed to the band and how will it affect you in the future?
This experience has definitely made us closer as a band, it's tested the dynamics amongst the band and it's been quite stressful at times having its ups and downs but the fact we came out the other end winners shows that if we work hard enough we can get results. So guess it's been quite a learning curve and we're a lot more confident now as a band which will help us with wherever we go with music down the path.
What shows have you got lined up, where can the fans expect to see you next?
If our fans want to catch us playing we have a bunch of gigs back on the sunshine coast after we get back from Sydeny. We're playing at The Kings Beach Tavern on christmas eve, The Palmwoods Hotel on the 29th of December, The Solbar on the 12th of Jan and another bunch between them and our gig at the Big Pineapple Music Festival on the 21st of April. If you like us on Facebook we'll be able to keep everyone up to date with all our upcoming gigs.
