Featuring the vocal and piano talents of one of the few female artists in this competition, Pretty Dulcie is an alternative rock band formed in 2010. They have a played a number of shows across Melbourne in this time and most recently took part in the Emergenza International Music Festival – making it all the way to the finals which will have them play another show at HiFi in December, for a chance to play Australia’s final in Sydney. The band also has an EP released this year which has helped promote the band and expand their reach.
The EP proved to be an effective marketing & promo tool for these guys as they used it in a cross promotion for their semi final round how with the international battle of the bands. They are now hard at work playing other shows across the city, including a recent acoustic set. With well over 1,700 fans and likes on their Facebook profile, these artists have no problem building a fan base for their music and an audience for their live show. With profiles on every major up & coming band forum online, music streaming available and a concert listing these guys have their band’s marketing and online presence down pat
.
This four piece bands encompasses all of the elements you would expect from a rock band – drum, bass, guitar and a lovely lady on vocals and keys. Keyboards always add an interesting dimension to a musical sound and in this case it’s no exception. With some funky bass grooves and guitar riffs that come through at just the right moment, the songs make an impact both from a musical perspective as well as live performance. The songwriting, lyrical arrangements and vocals are equally strong and make for a well knit sound. The vocalist’s voice reminds me of a few alternative bands from the 90’s, a similarity which seems to have served the band well. Somebody Like You seems to exemplify the band’s strengths best – from the cool bass sounds right to the overall arrangements.
