While still in the market for a suitable and committed drummer, St.Jimmy is well outfitted as they are to wow their audience. Playing a mix of country & blues they have artfully entertained these two genres with a touch of punk, to produce a sound that is reflective – in perfect synch with the excellent songwriting and lyrics. They put on an excellent semi-final show during the Emergenza Music Festival in Melbourne and have earned the privilege of now performing in the final round as one of the 14 lucky winners.
Along with their excellent, it appears they have an excellent band promotion strategy. Aside from the usual band promotion tools such as a Facebook and reverbnation page, these guys have also gone the extra mile and made band t-shirts. With all of the electronic means of promoting bands and music, it’s nice to see a band who values the classic way of doing it – by playing as many live shows as they can get, and having their fans don their name right across their chest.
I have to say, I am more a fan of their more mellow, low key songs. Listening to Pass Me By, the tone of the music and the instrumental background are in full synch with the theme of the actual song. The vocalist’s voice is at the forefront, as it should be in this case because her voice is unique, powerful and melodic. When they attempt a ‘harder’ piece like the Motoribke Song, it sounded like the guitar distortion overpowered the lead singer’s voice and it seems like the song loses a little something. Regardless, it appears this mix has been working for them and might be what brings them all the way to Sydney.
