Our final Brisbane finalist is the alternative rock band Calais. When Emergenza’s Brisbane finalists hit the stage at HiFi in December, they will be competing for a chance to take their show on the road – all the way to Sydney! Calais put on an excellent show during their semi finals and their energy on stage lent itself to the crowd so well, they voted them all easily into the finals. Winning the crowd over is a key in any battle of the bands live show, and Calais managed to do this with seemingly little effort.
The band’s Facebook page is filled with updates, photos, video clips and new about their upcoming (or recent) musical successes. For instance – their local up & coming band seems less local and more of a national player when you see that they’ve ranked #119 on Australia’s alternative charts on iTunes… sure seems like a big deal for me. Their band marketing also excellent when it comes to their upcoming shows – their page shows a poster for just about every show they’ve played. Their approach to managing the band is really quite impressive.
What is equally impressive is their musical ability and skill. These five young men seem to have been made for the stage. Their songs are artfully composed, from the shortest interlude to the nuance of each guitar riff and vocal variation. Their new single Marvel is a perfect example of this type of dedication and talent. It not only showcases the singer’s ability to play with his voice but is very well written, and gives each musician an opportunity to showcase their talent on their instrument. The wide appeal and over all commerciality of their sound coupled with their personal aptitudes foreshadows good things for their future.
