EMERGENZA KICKS OFF IN MELBOURNE!
OUR VERY FIRST SHOWS AT BLUE TILE LOUNGE
The second week end of shows in OZ was in Melbourne. A city so creative it leaves all the scenester places I’ve been to around the world, looking like some half arsed pretentious music scenes.
Thursday night was cold in Belgrave, Victoria but all the people were brave enough to come out and support Idyll Crave, Missfire, Saint James and Quarter K. Then on the second half of the night we had Uncaged, Radnicka Klasa (mad punksters from Russia!) and Innerspace.
Friday night was the turn of Villa Euphoria, the very young A.D. Massacre and the very sweet voice of Megan Vale. A very eclectic mix of bands and an interesting way of checking out the local music supporters and their reactions.
Robot Army was next with a very charismatic front person. Benzene with their rock and roll and Batman Street was also there for the entertainment.
Up next the surprise hit of the night: Glovebox. This band was so original that they are still stuck in my mind after 2 weeks. I am still singing the lines to one of their songs..."i’m just a ten dollar whore"... songs so catchy that the crowd went wild and called for more after their set was done. The band was tight and each individual player was very competent and skillful. The woman that had the whole crowd spell bound was the lead singer. So charismatic was she that I almost had lesbian dreams about her!
Violent Disorder closed the Friday night with some loud ear piercing sounds.
Cosmic Nomads, Drink and The Impossible Cinema opened Saturday with very good tunes with great melodies. One Fine Day, Quadrophonic 7 Taurus were left to finish the night and storm the place they did…Sunday…leave the best for last. I felt like this was by far the best night for quality and talent.
Santanico Pandemonium had what it takes to break as a band. A simple 3 piece with the right tunes. Great melodies and strong songs. The Wonderful had sickly sweet melodies. Vacant Lot had strenght in their rock and roll.
Factory was great and memorable (left me with a smile on my face for some strange reason). Teak was as solid as their name. Kanvas Grey…aahwww! What can i say about this 3 piece? Emotional, well… if you combine the melodies of the Kinks with the intense deep feeling you get when you listen to Radiohead you know exactly what I mean, and if I may add the beautiful vocal passion you get from Muse...there! I said it all. You get the picture.
Munkies and Dinasti closed the night with great dance sets that had people screaming for more. So overall it was quite the experience but it’s not finished... there’s more in about 2 weeks time across Australia!
Check your local gig listings and go to the Agincourt Hotel in Sydney, Blue Tile Lounge in Melbourne and Jive in Adelaide. Support Aussie music!... I do!
