“AUSTRALIA IS READY TO ROCK EMERGENZA!”

Multiple-conversation with three upcoming Australian bands

Aktor, Ka’ge and Don’t Mind Us. Who are they? Here’s the solution: they are three “fierce” Australian bands that are ready and prepared – as well as their colleagues in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide – to rock the Southern Hemisphere hitting the Emergenza stages (just focus on Metro Theatre in Sydney: yeah, that’s one of the festival venues!). So, the Austral season is going to start on the 21th of June from The Agincourt in Sydney. And then to continue with Melbourne (June, the 28th) and Adelaide. But before the battle started and the amps cranked up, I wanted to dig into Australian bands’ dreams and expectations. I strongly desired to ask “how” and “why”. And try to realize something more about their local music scene too. I got a lot of good replies and I decided to select one or two answers for each question I proposed. What came out is a sort of colorful “multiple-conversation”. Let’s take a look to what our friends replied: they seem strongly determined to make Australian indie-music well known in Germany, at the Taubertal festival. Tell me how did you notice Emergenza Festival? Did you know the competition before it landed in Australia? Don’t Mind Us: "We discovered Emergenza through Myspace, prior to that this is the first time we found out about this competition! – Myspace has been a great marketing tool for our band, as well as a great meeting place for hooking up with other bands". What’s your idea about this huge and international battle of the bands and how and why you decided to take part in this adventure? Don’t Mind Us: "Emergenza is a huge stepping stone for all unsigned bands, it opens up unlimited opportunities, and from what we have seen, it is one of the best organized events going around. For Don’t Mind Us we see it as a great opportunity to get exposure both locally and internationally. We decided to take part because not only do we get a gig out of it, we also get a chance to play with some great undiscovered acts, and get amongst the whole festivities surrounding the event". Aktor: "We figured yes, it is a long shot, but at the worst, its sum money out of the bank and a chance to play an awesome show and get shown to some people in Sydney. At best, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime, to travel overseas to gig and record is every small time bands dream". What about your expectations, your dreams from this Festival? Kage: "The exposure from the event will be great, meeting all the other bands, the new fans and just playing is what we love. Like all bands in this event we all hope to go as far as we can but I guess it’s up to how we perform on the night and how crazy the crowd gets down with us". Don’t Mind Us: "To be honest we would be stoked if we made it to the 2nd round! Our aim to reach the 3rd round at the Metro Sydney, as this is one of the best live venues in Sydney, which attracts local and international touring acts. Realistically, if we bomb out we hope to take advantage of the constructive feedback we would receive from the music industry judges, so we can come back and shred it up next year. Hopefully it won’t come to that because we have been rehearsing, and gigging our arse’s off! Oh, did I mention that we would be stoked if we made it to Germany so we could down some steins, get stuck into the Kranskies, run amuck and just have a shredding good time!" Do you think it would help you to spread your music and increase your possibilities in becoming more popular than before? Aktor: “Definitely, just by being a part of the first rounds of this comp we can exhibit our music to crowds who would otherwise never have seen us perform, and they might (through word of mouth) promote us even further- who knows!” Kage: "Yeah, it’s a great way to share and enjoy other bands music, their fans energy and getting to see how our music is received by the different audiences.
