Nate Galovich began playing with Anthony during the summer of their sophomore year when Anthony started his first band. There was already a drummer, guitarist, and singer so Nathaniel opted to learn the bass. After a year, Nathaniel left to perform with a band called Passenger while refining his knowledge of musical theory and performance at Diablo Valley College. A few years later, Nathaniel rejoined Anthony to become a part of Phosgene Factor, which later evolved into A Place to Call Home. Nathaniel has been playing bass for 8 years, just as long as Anthony has been practicing his craft.
Jose Martinez spent two years in the DVC musical theory and performance program but mostly developed his skills with private lessons taught by Chris Meek. Jose stumbled upon Anthony’s ad for a drummer on his myspace page. Somehow fate led Jose to find that ad and respond with a 30 second video clip of him playing a guitar solo to the title track, A Place to Call Home. After a few meetings, Jose and Anthony began to work on songs together before Jose’s integration into the group. Jose began playing guitar his freshman year as well giving a total of 6 years in practice.
A Place to Call Home was born in January of 2006 when Charles Cain was playing drums. He left in late August to become an actor in Los Angeles, leaving APTCH to find another drummer. After two more months, they found their replacement in Alex Marks. Alex, a Fremont native, wasn’t repelled by the fact that APTCH was located in Concord. Alex started playing drums his senior year in high school and took lessons for four solid years with William Woodley who teaches at Music Unlimited in San Leandro. Now he's taking lessons from Rob Heart in Hayward. For a year, he was in the band Psychiatric Format Pill, a band located in Pleasant Hill.
The proudest element of A Place to Call Home is that each member comes from a different “school” of music. Anthony has for years been influenced by 90’s grunge and catchy riffed alternative music while cultivating a focus on lyrics and poetry. Nathaniel spent many years performing in DVC’s jazz ensemble with experience on the standup bass as well. Swedish metal and guitar heroes such as Joe Satriani and John Petrucci influence Jose’s complicated and well-executed guitar riffs. Alex’s style revolves around progressive tones from such bands as Rush and Dream Theater while maintaining diversity in other genres such as funk, jazz and fusion
