    Magnuson came into existence in San Diego when front man Greg Magnuson, a well respected bass player, who has played live in local bands, touring bands, and in studio sessions, started to take his songwriting more seriously. He chose to veer away from the more technical prog-rock style he played on bass and to pursue the straight forward melodic, guitar-driven British pop sound he had grown up on. He started playing acoustic shows but knew the sound he longed for needed others to be fully realized. After experimenting with various line-ups, he returned to sing and play bass accompanied by Kyrsten Hopkins, who added her stylized guitar work and backing vocals and Matt Guthrie, who completed the picture with his energetic, hard-hitting beats.
