À LA UNE
After a few jam sessions, the boys realized they needed another six-stringed presence: the solution was soon found in Josh Frenkel, an equally avid Disciple of Metal.
The band went through a plethora of names: Tabula Rasa, Better Live Than Dead, Better Live Than Emo, and Tortured Soul Asylum. Finally, they decided on Cenotaph. Why? Only those Muses of Steel dwelling deep in the Earth know...
After seriously blasting out some tightends at the John McCrae Secondary School 2003 Battle of the Bands (prior to which they had played the proverbial barbeque show), Cenotaph went on to play a handful of coffee houses and random venues. During the summer of 2004, the boys picked up steam, and decided it was demo time.
Finally released on November 19th, "Into the Storm" features three killer tracks: Tempest, Forlorn, and Broken Wings (all written and arranged by Cenotaph). The CD was recorded at Shine Studios in Ottawa.
Cenotaph's popularity continues to grow as their fan base builds. The band is particularly proud to have a group of Best Fans There Ever Was, the mysterious and all-too awesome Doyle, Lana, Selena, Koots, and the Cenotaph banner-bearer Kippin. Where are they from? Will we ever meet again? Only time will tell, but we know that they will spread the Gospel of Cenotaph across the land, and prepare them for the Exodus of Metal.
Cenotaph is preparing to play the Emergenza Festival in 2005, an undertaking that is sure to shake the foundations of music. Look for them in the coming months all over the place in Ottawa.
