At the age of one, JD started playing piano and also liked to sing. When he turned 12, he started playing clarinet and sax. His innate interest in evil things, fear, death, and shocking people got him kicked out of catholic school at about this time. At 15, he saw his friends rock band play for a battle of the bands. Naturally, being extremely fickle by nature, he bought a guitar. At about the same time, he began singing in the school choir where he received leading roles for the three years that he participated. He also had a rock band that changed members quite a lot until he gave that up.
At 18, he began studying music at the University of the Arts in Philly. He taught non-piano majors the piano and music theory while he was there. He also got to play with a lot of famous and talented musicians. Like all things, he got bored and quit, but not until after he received their most promising artist award. He met his current best friend Jonny when his uncle told Jonny that he played bass even though repeatedly Jonny told him that he played guitar. Jonny and JD ended up jamming and instantly attaining a musical tightness that most people never get to experience.
Jonny Croce: Bass GuitarJonny has walked along many paths, some of them pleasant and some of them not so pleasant. Spending four years of his life in the navy and traveling the world has tought him to be disciplined and open-minded. It has also taught him where his heart truly resides: music. Jonny started playing music at age 13. At 17, he met JD Mazzatenta; Jonny and JD instantly had a stellar connection as musicians and as friends. At age 19, Jonny joined the navy. During his final two years in the navy, Jonny and talented songwriter Ben Henry formed The Crud, which within that time frame put out two cds and toured the US. When Jonny finished up his 'sentence' with the navy, he returned to NJ where he reunited with JD to form Ravens in the Well.
