    À LA UNE
Co-founded in 1997 by Mike Phillips and Sri Rajan, the band Halfling has gone through many names and band members. The original name of the fledgling duo was 'Blip Culture'. Then college friend and former bandmate Ahmad Shairzay began collaborating with the boys and the new lineup became 'Shairzay' (they thought his last name sounded cool). For years this trio collaborated with many gifted and talented musicians in an effort to further the original group of songs that now make up most of Halfling's forthcoming debut album.

The trio once again became a duo in 2002 when Ahmad decided to move out west. Despite the setback Sri and Mike decided to continue. In the spring of 2003 Sri and Mike began jamming with percussionist Craig Johnson and changed the band name to Halfling. Once this new trio started to really gel, the need to fill out the band became apparent. During a chance encounter Mark Valenzano, a former classmate, was asked to play the keys and, rounding out the current line-up, Ryan Linhart came aboard to play bass.

What sets us apart from other bands: We are trying to write 100 songs that seamlessly flow from one into the next. In the end, our entire catalog will be one huge, hours-long song. We know it seems uber-ambitious but actually it adds an extra element of fun to our song-writing, seeing how we'll connect all of our songs. It should be added that these songs can be totally played by themselves and they usually are when we play live.

Some of the bands major influences are (in no particular order): Radiohead, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, David Bowie, REM, U2, Phish, The Mars Volta, NOFX, Jethro Tull, Blind Melon, and Chick Corea.
