    À LA UNE
With the fires of garage rock and thinly-veiled guitar-pop fast fading the scene is looking for real rock music... rock with energy, rock with meaning, artful rock music that reminds us of why we started loving this music.  Saturn Effect pulls from the anthemic rock of RUSH and Pink Floyd, blends it with the alt-rock sense of Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Cure and more into a powerful genre-pushing amalgam - call it prog, call it alternative, call it "intelligent rock."  Saturn Effect creates a powerful show with fierce energy paired with mind-bending technique.

Started as the dorm-room project of UMASS Recording Students Chris Wilson and Joshua C Smith, Saturn Effect evolved through many lineups and directions.  Early recordings are tinged Zeppelin-esque folksiness - and that same "story-telling" vibe continues to today - but Wilson's Satriani and Vai influenced guitar work and orchestral background has brought the music to a far greater level.  Vast sound-scapes that bring to mind the Smashing Pumpkins and The Catherine Wheel meet with fiery guitar and drum work a la Dreamtheater and Coheed and Cambria and hooks that have been described as "as fitting to open for Tool as they would for Jimmy Eat World."  After several years of polishing the sound, including a beautiful limited release 6-song Acoustic EP and the full-length "Oceans" album completed in Autumn of 2004 - described as a "a long and winding road where you're never sure what is going to jump out at you" by WFNX's "New England Product" - Saturn Effect, with new found talent in drummer Alan MacLean and bassist J. D. Killoran, has harnessed new creative energies and is currently recording again... working towards a large-scale concept album and pairing with the local artists and promotors to bring their story to life.

Saturn Effect hails from Boston, Massachusetts and has played great shows at venues in the area including The Paradise Lounge, TT The Bears, O'Brien's, The Rack and more.  A "rare blend of talent replete with radio-friendly appeal" says Anderson Mar of Dark Sky Promotions and Chris Rucker of WBCN calls the music "hard to pigeon-hole... solid musicians.“
