    À LA UNE
Grimis is a group of four friends who have been exploring music together for years. They formed after playing in middle school and high school jazz bands in Andover, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. From this background the group began building a repertoire of songs from the catalogues of jazz and funk legends such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and John Scofield.
In 2002, Grimis released its debut album, “The Nobel.” They began playing consistently throughout New England at small clubs, art center openings, and weddings. In 2004, the band released its second and latest album “Poets, Assassins, and Shepherds.” The album covers the group’s wide musical language from free-jazz to funk to rock and roll to folk. The album is less a collection of songs as it is a testament to years of listening, playing with each other, and sharing ideas.
The group’s sound is difficult to pin down. The heart of the music is based in improvisation but the band is extraordinarily diverse. Over the years the band has also honed its songwriting. A Grimis concert consists of powerful jazz/funk instrumentals, original vocal tunes, and finely-arranged cover songs ranging from John Scofield to Neil Young to the Flaming Lips.
The band has opened for highly-acclaimed groups such as The Slip, Addison Groove Project, the Aaron Thurston Trio, Apollo Sunshine, and State Radio. In late August 2004, before taking a hiatus, Grimis performed as the only act for a hometown concert at Andover’s Olde Town Hall and sold 450 tickets in three days.

Enthusiasm, freedom of expression, and integrity are what sets this band apart.
