À LA UNE
In a world where social disorder and political trivia dominate news pages, transkei make it their business to send out a message in their music and to evoke emotion in the hearts and minds of listeners. In the words of frontman Marshall: ‘...a message is as important as a melody – put the two together and magical things happen.’
The birth of transkei began with the arrival of McLaren from his native South Africa in August of 2006 – this reunion with Marshall and Austin meant that the ex-Vitamin X trio were back together and ready to solidify the bond that was forged over a decade previously. Through countless auditions, Trotman aka Magic from Northolt, West London joined the fray and the final ingredient was added to the melting pot which now exists in Acton, London.
In a short space of just under a year, transkei have managed to stamp their mark on London’s live music scene, knocking heads back with their gutsy and explosive mixture of punk-rock and metal-pop - a clearly adopted policy to keep audiences guessing at any given time.
Prestigious venues under the belt include Camden's array of live music venues, Putney’s Halfmoon, Fulham’s Zulus, Barracuda Bar in Newquay and Lark and the Park – and with songs like Brace D.I.Y and Black Gold, it’s not hard to see why transkei have fast catapulted themselves up the ladder towards musical success.
