CHICAGO WRAPS UP ELIMINATION ROUND

Semifinals Table Is Set

As the 192nd band, Maxlider, played its last chord, it was the official end to the 24 date elimination round in Chicago. Night after night at The Note bands worked, sweat, sang, staggered, and played the night away with the hopes of moving onto the semifinals. With so many bands playing at a high caliber, I was relieved that the audience had to choose who was to move on instead of myself. I have officially become a fan of many bands that enrolled this year. With the semifinals around the corner and 96 local bands still active in the festival, I’m sure there are many more fans to be made. The product of the elimination round was a symbol of Chicago’s music scene. The cities’ best pop, rock, metal, punk, and more are now set for round 2 at the exclusive Double Door beginning April 22nd. The bar has been raised and the bands are motivated. The semifinals have a different psychology to them. Once the bands become more involved with Emergenza, it is easy to see the benefits that can be reaped from the festival. I can personally see the changes in bands attitudes towards the festival and their music. The determination to advance further, the desire to play their tightest show, the hard work of promotions and thrill of exposure are just some of the things going through these Chicago musicians’ minds. With only 12 of 96 bands advancing to the finals at the Metro, the competition is stiff and most importantly we are having an awesome time doing it. Thanks to all who enrolled and good luck to those playing the semis.
