A behind the scenes look at designing guitars:

Joshua Hueber-Jesse, illustrator for Ernie Ball MusicMan

In the previous article you read about Sterling Ball, who is Joshua’s boss. You may remember, Sterling Ball saying that creativity is the most interesting and important part of his job as an illustrator.... In the art department at Ernie Ball they are constantly creating new, exciting designs and images. There is no time to get bored, because nothing ever becomes routine or old hat. It’s interesting to hear Joshua say, ”This is the best job I have ever had. I am given complete freedom to create whatever I want. It’s really fun working here”. Where do they come up with ideas for new designs? Joshua: “I get a lot of my inspiration from simply coming into to work every day, being surrounded by all these instruments and musicians, but mainly it just comes from my warped mind.” Joshua designed the custom-made guitars for Emergenza, fabulous prize for the most outstanding guitar players at the European Final 2002. “I tried to make them a mix of hard-core and elegance. That’s what makes them really unique”, he tells me. He thinks that Emergenza is “a great thing”. It gives the "underdog" a chance. Finally, I asked Joshua to finish these statements: 1. The Emergenza festival is: an awesome event and should continue to keep growing. 2. The way I see it, live music is: really the only way to hear it. It’s obvious when a band has real talent. 3. An up & coming band is: always good. The more music variety, the better. 4. Ernie Ball is: a pioneer in the music industry for advertising and marketing strategy. 5. Musicians are: the ones that really keep it rockin.
