How bands can make it!
Read these simple instructions
As a band, you must work hard to win new fans. Gather new people, "recruit” new and passionate fans (a bit like the army really). If you believe in your band, you MUST get results. The fundamental practice of “getting fans” to see your gigs, has to be done so that you can survive in a tough competitive field. Many bands don’t understand the concept of promotion and the importance of it. Simply calling your friends is not enough. THERE IS NO BAND EXISTANCE IF THERE IS NO PUNTERS AT THE GIGS. Every band should build a mailing list. A mailing list is the best way to keep a database of current and potential fans.
The simplest way to build an email list is to play live shows and invite loads of people. Shows should be SPECIAL EVENTS and not “just gigs”. They should be spaced so that the band does not play too often and fans get sick of going to see you play. Once you are done with your performance, go around the audience, introduce yourself, thank them for attending, and politely ask them if they are interested in being on your email list (most people are too polite to say "no"). If you are diligent about doing this after every show, not only will you amass a large and diverse email list, but you will also be able to follow up with these fans and sell them your CDs, tickets for your next show in their area, etc.
It has been proven countless times that bands who are good about staying in touch with their fans, have a higher chance of CONTINUALLY GAINING NEW FANS, increasing music sales, getting more people to live shows, and having longer careers.
A weekly practice of personal thank you emails should be exercised so that the fan feels “special”. Posting bulletins on Facebook is good but writing a personal e-mail inviting fans to the next gig is a lot more efficient. As your email list begins to grow you''ll need to find a way to efficiently manage your email updates. This takes time and organizational skills of course but the band would soon find the benefits in putting the effort!
